B1 Preliminary: practical English for everyday use
The B1 Preliminary exam is made up of four papers developed to test your English skills. The exam consists of four papers – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking – designed to assess your English language skills. The B1 Preliminary Reading paper has 6 parts and 32 questions.
This paper accounts for 25% of the total mark.
Writing

The B1 Preliminary paper has two parts. You have to show that you can write different types of text in English.
This paper accounts for 25% of the total mark.
Listening

The B1 Preliminary Listening paper has 4 parts and 25 questions. For each part, you have to listen to a recorded text or texts and answer some questions. You hear each recording twice.
This paper accounts for 25% of the total mark.
Speaking
Speaking
The B1 Preliminary Speaking test has four parts and you take it together with another candidate. There are two examiners. One of the examiners talks to you and the other examiner listens.
The Speaking test accounts for 25% of the total mark.
